Competition Effects during Femtosecond Laser Induced Element Redistribution in Ba- and La-Migration Based Laser Written Waveguides

چکیده
Fs-laser induced element redistribution (FLIER) has been a subject of intensive research in recent years. Its application to various types glasses already resulted the production efficient optical waveguides, tappers, amplifiers and lasers. Most work reported on FLIER-based waveguides refers structures produced by cross-migration alkali (Na, K) lanthanides (mostly La). The latter elements act as refractive index carrying elements. Herein, we report Ba-based, FLIER-waveguides phosphate glass with an contrast > 10?2. Phosphate modified same amount Na2O K2O, variable amounts BaO and/or La2O3 were used produce Ba or La acting carriers. Ba-only show waveguide writing threshold light guiding performance comparable that La-based structures. However, mixed Ba-La much higher migration threshold, smaller compositionally regions. This behavior is consistent competition effect both (Ba La) against alkalis. Such can be applied inhibit undesired effects fs-laser processing applications multicomponent glasses.

We report on Q-switched waveguide lasers on the graphene-based crystalline Y-branch platform. By applying direct femtosecond laser writing of Nd:YAG laser crystal, a surface waveguide splitter with Y-branch geometry has been fabricated with depressed cladding configuration. The Q-switched lasing operation at 1064 nm is achieved in transmission mode, by attaching a two-layer graphene on the reso...

Ultrafast laser inscription is a standard technique to fabricate embedded waveguides in glasses or crystals. Tightly focused femtosecond laser-pulses induce an increase in refractive index inside the material via non-linear absorption. By moving the sample through the focus virtually arbitrary threedimensional paths can be created. The transfer of this technique to polymers has already delivere...

Ultrashort pulsed laser photoinscription of Ti:Sapphire crystals may result in the self-organization of nanoscale material redistribution regions in regular patterns within the laser trace and stress-induced birefringence around the laser trace. We report on the formation of anisotropic optical waveguides in Ti:Sapphire by a procedure that involves femtosecond laser inscription of adjacent nong...
متن کاملCharacterization of Femtosecond Laser Written Waveguides for Integrated Biochemical Sensing
Fluorescence detection is known to be one of the most sensitive among the different optical sensing techniques. This work focuses on excitation and detection of fluorescence emitted by DNA strands labeled with fluorescent dye molecules that can be excited at a specific wavelength. Excitation occurs via optical channel waveguides written with femtosecond laser pulses applied coplanar with a micr...
